Thursday Thirteen

Thirteen Things about Lindsey!

1. I found this article about my favorite comedian, Mitch Hedberg. All of his fans already knew that this was the case . . .

2. WordPress finally released WordPress 2.0! I’m too scared to try and update it myself, I’ll let Lisa do it for me, LOL!

3. Well, since New Year’s is approaching, I thought I’d point to my resolutions! I’ve got one big resolution, but I’ve also got a whole list of resolutions in my 101 in 1001!

4. I’ve been working carefully to get together information for my initial posts on my faith blog, Reading Red Letters. Also, I’ve put in a request to E. Webscapes for a layout for the blog. The blog will be started up very soon!!!

5. I registered about 25 books on BookCrossing this week! I also ordered some labels and things from them, so as soon as those come in I will begin releasing books into the wild! I hope they come in soon - I wanted to release these in Jacksonville so that I don’t have to carry them back up to Winston-Salem with me!

6. I’ve gone a bit feed crazy, LOL! I am receiving so many feeds now that hardly a moment goes by that I don’t get a new article! But that’s OK - now that I’ve subscribed to some CNN feeds, I can actually have some idea of things going on in the world. I’ve subscribed to all my friends’ blogs’ feeds so that I can keep up with them better. And I’ve subscribed to a bunch of different Christian feeds so that I will have some topics for discussion on Reading Red Letters!

7. I’ve been dilligently working on watching movies that I have on my 101 in 1001 list. I’ve rearranged my Netflix list so that the movies I’ll receive right now are movies that my dad will want to watch with me. I’ll try to watch movies that he wouldn’t want to watch when I’m at school. He’s always trying to get us to watch older movies with him, so if I arrange it so that it is productive for my list, then that makes both of us happy :).

8. I have to go back to school in less than a week, and I really don’t want to. I love being here at home with my family, so I don’t much want to go back to school. Also, I still have a TON of work to catch up on from being sick.

9. Speaking of, I got an email from the head dean at our school saying:

We have completed a review of final semester grades and find that most of your grades are incompletes. You do not, therefore, have sufficient grade points to continue in the spring without a more complete explanation of the fall results and your plan for completing this work.

The Committee on Academic Affairs will meet on Jan 4 to discuss your continuation. PLease email me right away to help me understand your situation.

Well, ain’t that just dandy?! Apparently I’m not allowed to take classes next semester. Might put a damper on whether or not I’ll be graduating in May . . . I emailed him back and his response was:

I want to thank you for your email.

I believe that you have given me all the information that I will need at this point. For some reason, the indication of mono doesn’t appear on your deans’ card, but I will check into that next week.

Please continue to remain in touch with your professors and keep me informed about your progress in the courses for which you received an incomplete.

So, that seems a little better. However, the registration thing online still has me locked out due to my current academic standing. Muy frustrando.

10. Did you know that we’re going to get an extra second this year?!

11. I can’t figure out how to get album cover art onto my new video iPod. Does anyone know how to do this?

12. I still haven’t sent out my Christmas cards . . . oops. I’ve got them all ready except for the pictures and stamps. Why? We still haven’t taken out Christmas picture! Now, if you know my family you’ll know that every year since I was born my family has sent out Christmas cards to al our family and friends. When my brother Bo was born we started taking pictures of the two of us. This is the first year in 21 years that our Christmas card hasn’t gone out. Bo and I just kept being out of town at different times. First he had school and soccer, then I had Jen’s wedding, then he had a soccer tournament which lasted until the 23rd. Then, on the 26th he left to go to North Carolina. He’s supposed to come back really late tonight, so hopefully we’ll get the picture taken this weekend. I think everyone must think we’ve forgotten about them, but I promise, we haven’t!!!

13. I’ve been talking to Mama some about the design she’d like for her online business site - and I’m getting excited!!!!

It’s Blogcess - 31

It's Blogcess!

From Reilly:

It’s almost 2006 – - This year zoomed by.
It’s almost 2006 and that means it will be a new year and the time when many feel it is a chance to complete all those ignored tasks of 2005 – - so in keeping with the tradition of many:

1. Do you have any resolutions? - Yup! I posted a big one a couple posts ago, and I also have my 101 in 1001!

2. What will you be doing when the clock strikes midnight? - Probably sitting on my bum watching the ball drop. Unfortunately all my friends are having parties at home, but I will not be in New York, New Jersey, Orlando, etc.

3. Instead of making a list of news, political, entertainment and other events that took place during 2005 I thought I’d just break it down into favorites. What were your favorites in 2005? -
Favorite Movie: either Star Wars Episode III or Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Favorite Song: haha, my song for the year was “Blinded by the Light” by Manfred Mann, but that wasn’t really a 2005 song . . .
Favorite TV Show: Gilmore Girls ;)
Favorite Product: my Pocket PC
Favorite Person: probably Mama
Favorite Book: Memoirs of a Geisha
Favorite Magazine: InStyle
Favorite News Outlet: CNN.com RSS (I finally have a way to get the news so that I’ll actually read it!)

4. Time to spread some ringing in the new year “Blogcess” linky love. - a new blog I discovered: CoffeeSwirls

I found this article about a new software that allows you to send an email to yourself in the future:

“Sending the future you e-mails”

I’ve done this sort of thing before, only on paper. At camp we would write letters to ourselves and then our counselors would mail them to us six months later when camp was just a memory and an anticipation. Anyways, I thought that this was really interesting, so I’m sharing - enjoy :)!

Well, I have several resolutions on my 101 in 1001 that I will be working on this year, LOL! However, one of those items in particular is my really big resolution for 2006.

Mama has been making beaded things (bookmarks, prayer beads, etc.) for just over a year. She’s gotten really good at it, and these beads look AMAZING. Seriously, she’s really got an eye for what goes well together. Plus, she makes them in quite a range - from inexpensive but classy to antique beads and antique crystals that get quite pricy (family heirloom quality).

She decided that she wanted to try and start selling these beads. She enjoys them so much that she wants to keep making them for people, but it gets pretty pricy to be completely footing the bill! She is currently making them for our church and selling them at cost (no profit), but she also wants to sell them to the community.

My suggestion? An online business of course!

This is where my resolution comes in. Mama needs help. She hasn’t got a good inventory filing system yet, and it will take WEEKS for her to get everything filed. So resolution part A: help Mama inventory all the beads.

Next - photographs. She needs to have pictures of her stock to go on the website. Resolution part B: create an easy system for photographing and uploading the pictures so that my techno-NOT savvy mom can do this while I’m at school, which is 8 hours from home.

And the most important part of all - part C. Actually getting the website created and organized. I haven’t yet inquired about having the design and layout created by E. Webscapes yet because I don’t have enough concrete ideas about colors and graphics from my mom yet, but the plan is to get her to stop going for 2 seconds so that I can talk with her about these things, then contact E. Webscapes about the design (I absolutely LOVE the business design they’ve done for Leanne, and I’ve played around with other types of “online stores” and have been completely unsatisfied by the look). Then, once we’ve got a site to work with, my job will be to get all the content online - the items, pricing, management of all that.

Basically, my new year’s resolution is to get Mama’s business online.

So far I’ve got the domain (www.seasidespirit.com), but that’s about it, LOL! However, I am very optimistic about this goal. Mama just signed the paperwork at the lawyer’s office last week, so she’s legal now, LOL. It’s getting to be the time where I need to step in and start doing my part. The only real challenge is the fact that I will be doing this all long distance (which wouldn’t be such a big deal except that my mom really is computer illiterate - she does things in baby-steps, which is fine, it just takes us a little longer to get where we need to be).

Why the long rambling post about my New Year’s Resolution (and a few days early at that)? Because I would like to enter my resolution in the competition that E. Webscapes is doing - it’s their New Year’s Blog Give Away! For more information, here is the link about the competition:

New Year’s Blog Give Away

And the trackback.

So . . . good luck to me! And even if I don’t win, this is a resolution that I have thought long and hard about. I’m not just posting this resolution for the competition - I’d also like to get this out here on paper . . . er, screen. If this is posted, it makes it more concrete for me, and therefore it becomes a goal that I can’t just file away under “I’ll do that later.” This is going to happen this year, and I am super pumped!!!
