Do you examine your breasts?
One of the most important things that women can do for themselves is a breast self examination (BSE). Tumors come in all shapes, sizes, and densities. Sometimes the mammogram isn’t going to catch the cancer. That is what happened to my mother. Had she not been doing her BSE, they wouldn’t have found her cancer when they did. Even after she found two lumps and had them biopsied and they were determined to be malignant, the lumps STILL didn’t show up on the mammogram.
If you don’t know how to do a breast self examination, the Komen Foundation has some great resources, including this how-to. I’m only 22, but I’ve already started my regular monthly self-exams (#17 on my 101 in 1001). Please examine your breasts – it could save your life!

Thank you so much for this post. I am a breast cancer survivor and many of my October posts were about early detection. It is located at my old Blogger site:
