• Mark off #26 – I am gainfully employed as the Events Coordinator & Board Administrator at the Alliance Theatre!
• My dad and I took an awesome trip to Washington, D.C. this summer.  We were ridiculously touristy – we saw all the major monuments, the White House, and several Smithsonian museums, so #44 has been thoroughly completed.
• #52 on my list stated “Write ‘to be read’ letters to selected people (letters to be read upon my death by the people who mean the most to me).”  However, I’ve come to a realization about this.  I would much rather live my life so that all those important people know EXACTLY how I feel about them, so there’s no reason to write a letter.  Typically if I decide I no longer want to pursue an item on my list I’ll change it to something new, but I feel like I really had a personal epiphany around this item, so I’m marking it as complete.
• I am in the process of moving (yay!) and as I’m packing up I have organized, filed, and stored all my notes/keepsakes from my graduate classes (#57) and I sorted through all my clothing for a third time (#61).
• I was all set to participate in Blogathon 2010 (#68) this year – I had my charity picked out and everything.  However, they decided to cancel Blogathon 2010 . . . so hopefully I’ll get to do it next year!
• #71 – Participate in Blog Action Day 2010.  Done!

Today was Blog Action Day, and the topic was a biggie this year – water.  There are two things that push my buttons about water:

• Water waste.  One of my biggest pet peeves is water waste at home.  Taking a shower?  Don’t turn on the water until you’re actually ready to get in.  Brushing your teeth?  Turn off the water while you’re brushing.  There are so many simple habits we could change in our personal lives that would make a huge difference if we all got on board!
• Bottled water.  What a ridiculous waste of resources!  Let’s put water into a plastic bottle that will sit in a landfill for years, then put it on a truck and ship it across the country, wasting gas and pollution the air with truck emissions.  Most tap water tastes just as good as bottled water, so why not invest in a great water bottle and just refill (for free!) from the tap?  At home I use a Brita pitcher so that I have nice filtered water, and I bought a stainless steel water bottle to carry around (however, I am thinking about a glass water bottle like the Lifefactory Beverage Bottle so that I can stick it in the dishwasher).

Americans are horrible about taking for granted the conditions of our society.  As Tara Lohan says, “while millions of people across the world don’t have access to clean water at all, Americans, the overwhelming majority of which, have safe and cheap tap water flowing freely, still are choosing to shell out tons of money for bottled water. And the industry is making a killing off of it.”

Looking to save on your water bill?  Change your water habits.  Looking to save on your grocery bill?  Stop buying bottled water.  Simple easy changes to save money AND the planet!

Thanksgiving went well – it was nice to visit with my family, even if it was only for the one day.  And when I came back, sweet little Miles was looking so much better!  He got a cold about a month ago, and due to all the irritation in his eye (cats don’t get runny noses, they get runny eyes) he developed an ulcer that would not go away.  However, I was thankful to see some improvement!

Now – on to cleaning my house a bit so that I can pull out the Christmas tree!!!

When I moved to Atlanta this summer, my boyfriend came with me. I had 2 cats and he had 3, so we’ve been working for the past several months on getting the cats adjusted to each other. It did not take long for Jazz to decide that he did not like this arrangement, and he started acting out as a result of the merge.

We’ve done everything that the vet has suggested to make the adjustment easier, but the vet is now recommending that we try and find him a home where he can be the only cat. It breaks my heart to have to find him a new home, but it’s even worse when I think about having to give him to an animal shelter. For the past 3 months we have been desperately trying to find a new home for him where he doesn’t have to share the litter box. We’ve had no luck.

Until this week. I sent a begging email to the entire staff of the theatre where I work, and because God is so awesome, a girl I have never met who works in our education department responded. Her sweet kitty died this past Friday, and she and her husband have decided to give Jazz a new home.

I am really upset that I have to give him away – he’s my baby, and I love him so much! However, I know that while it’s hard, this is for the best, and I am SO THANKFUL that God laid it on Rachel and her husband’s hearts to give Jazz a new home.
