Thirteen Firefox Extentions I Can’t Live Without

We’re all switching over to our personal edition number for the Thursday Thirteen, so this is my 22nd TT!! Woo hoo!

1. A9 Toolbar - This is my absolute favorite Firefox extension! It puts a search engine on your toolbar that works just as well as Google, but for using this search engine, Amazon.com will give you a discount of 1.57% on all orders! It’s not a huge discount, but you’ve gotta use a search engine anyways, you might as well get a discount for it! The search engine also has a sidebar that calls up books from Amazon.com that are relevant to your search (though you can close this option if you want, it’s not disruptive).

2. Calculator - This is another excellent extension. I find myself using the calculator all the time on the computer, and this calculator is exactly like the Windows PowerToy calculator. However, instead of having to go Start->Programs->blah blah blah, you just click a button on your toolbar, and it opens the calculator in a new tab! It’s great :-)!

3. SessionSaver - I have used this one so much. I’m one of those people who will have eight or nine tabs open at any given time, and sometimes I want to remember them all, but I don’t really want to add them to my bookmarks, and I know that I’m going to want to see them all at one time. SessionSaver will save all the tabs that you have open under one convenient bookmark-like option in the tools menu!

4. del.icio.us Complete - Do you use del.icio.us? Then you SHOULD be using this extension! Easy to save new sites to your del.icio.us, and easy to open up your del.icio.us to see your bookmarks!

5. Skype Toolbar for Firefox - This makes phone numbers on webpages clickable so that you can call them through Skype! Want to order a pizza, but need to look up the phone number? Go to yellowpages.com or something, and the phone number will be clickable! Free call from your computer! And if you’re not using Skype . . . oh buddy, we need to talk!

6. Adblock (and also Adblock Filterset.G) - Great for filtering out sites and ads that are just junk or spam. Makes for a cleaner browsing experience ;-)!

7. Google Notebook - Want to remember something about a site? Forget something and need to make a note about it? Google Notebook is the way to go, and there is a very handy extension which makes using Google Notebook so easy that you can’t imagine not using it!

8. 1-ClickWeather - Puts your current weather and a forecast down on the status bar of your browser. Really helpful when you’re trying to get dressed in the morning :-)!

9. PDF Download - Tired of viewing PDFs in your browser and accidentally closing them, only to realize you didn’t save them? PDF Download gives you options for viewing PDFs . . . open it? Save it? The choice is yours . . .

10. FireFTP - Simple and free FTP client that opens in a new tab in your browser. Super easy, super efficient, super necessary.

11. Web Developer - A great toolbar for all web developers. View CSS, view source, disable scripts, auto-enter forms, the works! This toolbar is chock full of goodies!

12. Tabbrowser Preferences - Enhances the simple tab features in Firefox.

13. UI Tweaker (Formerly Toolbar Cleanup) - Allows you to change the settings in Firefox to what works the best for you!

Thirteen Things about LINDSEY

DON’T FORGET!!! Please sponsor me for Blogathon 2006 - I’m blogging for breast cancer!!!

1. I had an amazing T13 of quizzes all ready to go on my computer for last week . . . until the crash. So last week’s T13 didn’t happen. Apologies. Please love me anyways.

2. Oh the crash. Here’s the deal. For that graduate program that I started last week (seems like last year), we get new computers. As you know, I went to undergrad at Wake Forest, and all the students receive laptops. Well, Wake Forest graduate students get the same deal, though the computers are very different (more on that in a minute). I was excited to get a new computer, blah blah, the first thing I did when I got home was start working on transferring.

3. Get the computer home, install all the programs on it, transfer my email and Firefox settings. All that’s left is my actual files - Word documents, pictures, all the files from MagicMouth, the things I’ve been working on for my website, etc. A total of many many GBs. Big transfer.

4. I decide that life will be easier if instead of saving to DVDs or my external hard drive that I just take the hard drive out of my old computer and with a USB connect it to the new computer and just directly transfer the files. I’ve done this before, so I’m not too worried.

5. I hook it up to the new computer, and it doesn’t recognize the drive. At this point, I’m mildly annoyed. I’m gonna have to do this the hard way. I put the hard drive back into the old computer.

6. OPERATING SYSTEM NOT FOUND

7. I panic. I try absolutely everything I can think of to get the stupid thing to work. I take it in to the IT dept at school, and they try everything that they can think of. The drive is corrupt, completely unrestorable, crashing other computers . . . it’s dead.

8. So they say they’ll get me a new drive, but that doesn’t restore any of my data. My data is gone.

9. Luckily, I have a backup from May back when the thing crashed before (they think the problems were related), so I have a partial backup. Lost some files for the company and for my websites, so that super sucks, but other than that, I can manage.

10. So that’s what I’ve been up to. Trying to rebuild. And get acclimated into this program - it’s the hardest school I’ve had in my life. You’ll hear more this weekend.

11. Don’t forget to stop by on Friday for the Blog Tour of Homes, and this weekend please sponsor me for Blogathon 2006 - I’m blogging for breast cancer!!!

Your EQ is 140

50 or less: Thanks for answering honestly. Now get yourself a shrink, quick!
51-70: When it comes to understanding human emotions, you’d have better luck understanding Chinese.
71-90: You’ve got more emotional intelligence than the average frat boy. Barely.
91-110: You’re average. It’s easy to predict how you’ll react to things. But anyone could have guessed that.
111-130: You usually have it going on emotionally, but roadblocks tend to land you on your butt.
131-150: You are remarkable when it comes to relating with others. Only the biggest losers get under your skin.
150+: Two possibilities - you’ve either out “Dr. Phil-ed” Dr. Phil… or you’re a dirty liar.

13. This is too good to pass up. I’ve been playing The Game for about 2 years now, and I come to find that it’s on Wikipedia. Priceless. Also check out www.losethegame.com. Add yourself to the family tree - just remember: your birthday is when you found out about the game, not your actual birthday. Enjoy ;-)!
