Thanksgiving went well – it was nice to visit with my family, even if it was only for the one day. And when I came back, sweet little Miles was looking so much better! He got a cold about a month ago, and due to all the irritation in his eye (cats don’t get runny noses, they get runny eyes) he developed an ulcer that would not go away. However, I was thankful to see some improvement!

Now – on to cleaning my house a bit so that I can pull out the Christmas tree!!!

New Year’s has passed, and that only means one thing . . . school starts tomorrow. Boo! I needed another couple of weeks off. After being in New York (and seeing it at Christmas, #38 on my 101 in 1001), I only got about a week to get ready for Christmas before I flew home to Florida, drove to Georgia and back, flew back to NC, and then had about a week to get ready for school. All while working holidays at Starbucks, LOL! I think I’m just ready for a more consistent schedule.

So classes start tomorrow, and I’m back to the grind. I think that this term will be a little less rigorous than last term (I have one less class), so I am looking forward to that.

I can also cross items #8 (they were out by New Year’s!) and #30 on my 101 in 1001 list.

Big things are coming in 2009 – I’m starting the search for an internship (already have an interview lined up for January!), I’ll be moving once the term is over, I’m helping Lisa with WordPress Chicago which takes place in June – and that’s just the first half of the year!

The Mission: Complete 101 preset tasks in a period of 1001 days.

The Criteria: Tasks must be specific (i.e. no ambiguity in the wording) with a result that is either measurable or clearly defined. Tasks must also be realistic and stretching (i.e. represent some amount of work on my part).

This project was taken from Triplux.

I completed my first 101 in 1001 on September 15, 2008!

The things that I say I want to MAINTAIN will be counted as completed if they are maintained for at least two months. I figure that if I maintain something for at least that long, then it’ll be habit.

Tasks I have completed will be struck through and a completion date will be listed that is linked to a post about the completion of that task. Tasks that I have begun will be italicized and a beginning date will be listed.

Started: September 15, 2008
Due Date: June 13, 2011
Tasks Completed: 36
Tasks in Progress: 9
Tasks Remaining:65

1. Make this list of 101 things to do in 1001 days. If anything was left incomplete from my previous 101 in 1001, then figure out why I didn’t do it, and see if I can rework the goal. If so, it has to be on this list (these items have a ** in front of them). Completed 9/15/08

Religious
2. Join a small group/women’s Bible study.
3. Start writing again at Reading Red Letters and MAINTAIN it. Completed 12/26/09
4. Find a church home wherever I move to after school. Completed 12/26/09
5. Read at least 10 books by C. S. Lewis.
6. MAINTAIN regular daily prayer time. Begun 12/15/09
7. **Plan a religious fast and complete said fast (probably 3 days, but that’s flexible).
8. **Read the Bible from beginning to end.

Family/Friends

9. Send Christmas cards in a timely fashion in 2008. Completed 12/30/08

Well, I did a great meme during Blogathon 2006, so I thought I’d post it here again (even though it’s 2 years off . . . the answers are close to the same):

20 Years Ago: (age 2)

My mom read to me allll the time! I’ve been a big fan of books and reading since day one. There’s also a really cute picture of me when I was about 2 1/2. I’m sitting in a big rocking chair, and my little brother is in my lap (he’s about a month old), and I’m “reading” a book to him . . . and the book is upside down.

10 Years Ago: (age 12)

When I was this age, my punishment was getting the TV taken away, it wasn’t being grounded . . . It was taking my books away. I HATED it. Also when I was 12, I started to write a book, which I finished when I was 13. It’s a for real book – think Baby-Sitter’s Club genre. I’ve gone back and read it, and while it needs a LOT of work, I have actually really considered doing something with it . . .

5 Years Ago: (age 17)

At 17 I was a senior in high school, and I was getting so burned out on all the school reading that I kind of quit reading for pleasure. I hated it, because I looooved to read. I just couldn’t do it.

3 Years ago: (age 19)

At 19 I was kind of in the same place as I was at 17. I had tried to get back into reading after graduation, but when I went to college I majored in English and theatre . . . so was reading CONSTANTLY for class. I just couldn’t get myself to read for pleasure.

Last Year: (age 21)

I decided to heck with it about school reading, and every time I had a break from school (fall break, spring break, Christmas, Easter, you name it) I would read about a book a day. I still do that.

This Month: (age 22)

Now I have started grad school, so I’m working at finding a balance between reading for pleasure and reading for class. It’s been difficult. Becoming active in Bookcrossing has helped.

3 Favorite Reading Locations:
- my bed
- outside by the pool at home in FL
- the coffee shop at school

3 Reading habits:
- when I start a book, I will usually finish it in the next 24 hours
- if I’m in public, I HAVE to be listening to music while I read
- I have 2 bookshelves full of books that I haven’t read

3 Things that distract me:
- other people
- movies
- schoolwork

Rachel @ Blog-Wise is blogging for PAWS Atlanta, and she’s posting stories about people’s pets. I thought I’d take a break from writing about literacy related things and introduce my pets (which is also #31 in the Day of Blogs Writing Prompts)!

My kittens just turned 1 year old last week. They’re brothers, and I adopted them from AARF.  A vet who works with AARF found them (along with their sister) in a box at her front door one day. The vet kept the little girl and gave the boys to AARF. They had a very hard time finding a home because they are very attached to each other and AARF really preferred that they be adopted together.

My Christmas present from my parents this year was a pair of kittens. I looked at several shelters before I met my babies. Once I heard how much they needed to be together, I knew that they should go home with me. I wanted an orange kitten, so I was a little sad that they were both black and white, and with such angular (part-Siamese) faces. However, now that I’ve had them, I know that was so silly! They are so incredibly loving and well-behaved. They love each other and they think the world revolves around me, LOL!

I named them Oscar and Miles after the jazz musicians Oscar Peterson and Miles Davis. I can’t imagine having taken any other kittens!

Oscar!

However, lest you forget I am still here, I thought I’d bombard your feedreader in celebration of my third blogiversary. Yes, Suspension of Disbelief is 3 years old today. Quite a bit has happened to me since I started my blog. I’ve graduated from college and started graduate school – twice. I’ve gotten my first AND second non-summer jobs, I’ve lost both of my grandmothers, I’ve adopted kittens . . . and so much more!

Thanks for sticking with me, even if I’m not consistent AT ALL. It still makes me feel appreciated to know that you are here when I do have the time to blog. And I promise, at some point, things will settle down enough so that I can get back to a bit more regular blogging routine. Thanks for your support!

To appease the masses, I bring to you . . . an update.

Yes, I have been a very sucky blogger the past few months. Grad school + job = NO FREE TIME. Pity me, please?

OK, so last I spoke was when Nana passed away. I was in Georgia for about a week helping with funeral arrangements and the like, then I came back to North Carolina.

My kittens did great while I was gone (AJ watched them for me), and they also gained names! I named the one with more white on his face Oscar (for Oscar Peterson) and the other one is Miles (for Miles Davis). There will be more pictures to come, though they haven’t grown AT ALL since I got them (which, I shouldn’t say that too loud – they are precious and adorable, I like their size now, LOL). They love to cuddle with me and they are SO GOOD together – I can’t imagine ever seperating them. I feel bad because I am gone so much of the day, so I don’t get to spend nearly as much time with them as I want to, but since they have each other, I know that they’re doing just fine. They just really like to cuddle when I come home!

The next week was utter chaos because it was holiday at Starbucks, so crazy busy, and I also had one week to get ready for Christmas. AJ and I had a lovely Christmas on the 21st, and on the 22nd I had Christmas with his family. On the 23rd I drove to GA, had Christmas with MY family, and then drove back on the 26th.

On the . . . 29th? . . . I woke up at about 3:30AM with really intense pain in my lower right abdomen. I could barely stand up, and it made me throw up it hurt so bad. I was able to get to the computer, saw that the right side is the appendix side, and decided I didn’t want to risk it. I called AJ and woke him up and he got me to the ER. It turns out that I had a ruptured ovarian cyst, so the next week I was off my feet a bit and then taking it pretty easy. I feel much better now, but man that hurt!!!

Classes started back on January 4th, and it has been NONSTOP since then. At the moment my rotation is in the development office, and it’s very time intensive. My schedule most days is something like this:

Rotation: 8AM-9:30AM
Class: 10AM-2PM
Rotation: 2PM-4:30PM
Work: 5:45PM-11:45PM

Note that I get about 8 hours off . . . and those are the sleeping hours . . . try fitting homework and sanity time in there. I’m exhausted. Luckily, there are only about 4 more weeks of this rotation and then I switch to something a little more laid back, so if I can just hang in there.

I’m getting really tired of school. As I go through all my classes, I realize that I’m not really learning a ton. I don’t say this to be cocky, I just got a really great undergrad education, and my instincts are usually pretty good. If it weren’t for the darned three letters that I need to get a job (MFA), I probably would be just fine to have skipped all this. I just have to keep reminding myself that I’ve only got about a year and a half before my internship, and while that’s technically still school, it’s really a job too, and it will be in an office somewhere (or something . . .)

I have missed being able to be online. I feel like I’m losing a little bit of myself because of all the craziness. Summer will be a welcome time. How is everyone else doing (is anyone even reading my blog anymore)?
