Thursday Thirteen
Thirteen Things about LINDSEY

I’m back to Thursday Thirteen-ing! Yay!!!

1. Since I withdrew from grad school, I need to get a job. And I have no idea where to start, cause I thought I wouldn’t be doing this search for another 8 months. Any ideas? Know of any jobs in North Carolina?

2. Now that I’m not going to school every day, I’ve got a lot more time on my hands, and I’ve been accomplishing a lot at home. I’ve sorted through a lot of things and I’ve gotten a lot of cleaning done.

3. With that free time I managed to buy ALL my Christmas presents! As in, I’m done! Unless something pops up last minute, my presents are finished.

4. I’ve also gotten all my Christmas cards addressed - still haven’t written them, but the addressing is done.

5. And since I’m updating on my life and goings on, I should mention that I’ve made progress on my 101 in 1001! Today I am 32.47% through with the time, and I’ve completed 37.62% of my tasks. I’m pretty excited about that! Since I last posted about the 101, here are the things I’ve finished:

6. I completed #2 - regularly updating my faith blog, Reading Red Letters. I would still like to update more often, but I have been doing well thus far, and hopefully it will continue to be this way!

7. My brother Bo is a freshman in college, and #7 on my list was keeping in touch with him. Not only have we kept in touch, but we see each other fairly often - once every other week or so. It’s been great, I’m so glad that he’s up here!

8. I’ve also got #14 down - I’m regularly flossing, LOL!

9. And regularly taking my vitamins (#16).

10. Well, #28 was to set up a new place to live after graduation, but now that I’m not in school, I guess that I completed that one back in July, LOL!

11. With my new budget I’ve maintained saving $5 a day (#32) - hint, I take it out of my account as soon as I get my check.

12. #49 was to maintain cleaning apartment at least once a month. Now I have FlyLady. ‘Nuff said. (P.S. - you should ALL be FLYing!)

13. One of the best things about living with Matt and Ben is that Matt is very into politics, and he knows that in general I am not an idiot, so I can ask as many stupid politics questions as I want and he won’t judge me. So I ask them all the time :-) - check off #51!

Thursday Thirteen
Thirteen Things about LINDSEY

This week Denise has challenged us:

I would like to challenge all Thirteeners to come up with 13 things they like about themselves.

I feel like we, as women, spend so much time scrutinizing ourselves that we sometimes forget the good stuff.

1. I have a GREAT relationship with my family. My parents and I get along extremely well, and my brother and I almost never fight. And it’s been this way my entire life. I love my family very dearly, and I feel so blessed to have them in my life!

2. I feel as though I have a good perspective for what’s important in life. I don’t get caught up on money or popularity, or any of those things that can consume your life. Having had a mother with breast cancer and a father with prostate cancer and autoimmune hepatitis, I have faced the scary thought that my parents could have died, my mother before my high school graduation, and my father before my college graduation - twice. The important things in life are about being with people you love and respecting them and yourself!

3. I have an intense passion for life. When I find something that I enjoy, I take it and run with it. While sometimes this can make me become a little obsessed with projects, I’d prefer that to being apathetic any day!

4. I have a very loving nature. I love to give and receive hugs, small children delight me, and don’t get me started on pets, LOL! I’m a loving friend, and I’m always there when someone needs to talk.

5. In that same vein, I am a giver. I love to help my friends, I’m always there to cook a meal or run an errand. My friends tell me that my love language is Acts of Service, and they’re probably right.

6. I have an understanding for the importance of art. A lot of people get so bogged down in the day-to-day that they don’t take the time to stop and realize that life is beautiful, and it enhances our lives. Without art (in any form!) we lose perspective, and the monotony would cause us to go crazy!

7. I love theatre. I don’t know why I like this about myself, but I feel like theatre is just such a great way to communicate with people and convey different emotions and perspectives. You can express any idea through theatre, and it’s a great learning tool.

8. I want to be a mom. I feel like children are such a blessing, and my entire life I’ve had the desire to be a mother and wife. I’m glad I have that desire. I’m not so sure I’m cut out for a life without a family, LOL!

9. I love Christmas, and all that goes with it. So many people have become disillusioned with Christmas, both the religious and cultural elements, but it really can be a wonderful and joyful time of the year, a time to remember what came before and what we have now. And I’m glad I can see that!

10. I like my sense of drive. When I get a task or a goal that I am dedicated to, I will see it through to the end. I will commit to it and ensure that all bases are covered.

11. I’m very organized. Close friends who have seen my room will probably disagree, but I am. Everything has an organized system to it, and if you ask me where someone is, I will tell you in a heartbeat! My computer is also super organized, and it makes me way more productive.

12. I love my job. Working for MagicMouth is just so incredibly fulfilling and exciting, and while it’s scary to start something from scratch and be unsure of how you will do financially, I’m happy that I can be forward-thinking enough to be thrilled instead of terrified.

13. I love blogging, and that’s silly to be something that you love about yourself, but its true. I’ve always loved writing, but once I got into high school, I quit writing for pleasure because I had so much writing for school, and I never picked it back up. But now that I’m blogging, I’m slowly regaining my desire to write, and I hope to rewrite my novel sometime in the new future!

I found this meme over at A High and Hidden Place, and it looks like too much fun!

20 Years Ago: (age 2)

My mom read to me allll the time! I’ve been a big fan of books and reading since day one. There’s also a really cute picture of me when I was about 2 1/2. I’m sitting in a big rocking chair, and my little brother is in my lap (he’s about a month old), and I’m “reading” a book to him . . . and the book is upside down.

10 Years Ago: (age 12)

When I was this age, my punishment was getting the TV taken away, it wasn’t being grounded . . . It was taking my books away. I HATED it. Also when I was 12, I started to write a book, which I finished when I was 13. It’s a for real book - think Baby-Sitter’s Club genre. I’ve gone back and read it, and while it needs a LOT of work, I have actually really considered doing something with it . . .

5 Years Ago: (age 17)

At 17 I was a senior in high school, and I was getting so burned out on all the school reading that I kind of quit reading for pleasure. I hated it, because I looooved to read. I just couldn’t do it.

3 Years ago: (age 19)

At 19 I was kind of in the same place as I was at 17. I had tried to get back into reading after graduation, but when I went to college I majored in English and theatre . . . so was reading CONSTANTLY for class. I just couldn’t get myself to read for pleasure.

Last Year: (age 21)

I decided to heck with it about school reading, and every time I had a break from school (fall break, spring break, Christmas, Easter, you name it) I would read about a book a day. I still do that.

This Month: (age 22)

Now I have started grad school, so I’m working at finding a balance between reading for pleasure and reading for class. It’s been difficult. Becoming active in Bookcrossing has helped.

3 Favorite Reading Locations:
- my bed
- outside by the pool at home in FL
- the coffee shop at school

3 Reading habits:
- when I start a book, I will usually finish it in the next 24 hours
- if I’m in public, I HAVE to be listening to music while I read
- I have 2 bookshelves full of books that I haven’t read

3 Things that distract me:
- other people
- movies
- schoolwork

3 Favorite Book Beverages:
- Diet Coke
- cup of coffee
- espresso-y drink from Starbucks

3 Favorite bookmarks:
- my mother makes bookmarks, so my favorites are all beaded bookmarks made by her!

So . . . what about YOU?

Breast pain (mastalgia) is the most common breast related complaint among women; nearly 70% of women experience breast pain at some point in their lives. Breast pain may occur in one or both breasts or in the underarm (axilla) region of the body. The severity of breast pain varies from woman to woman; approximately 15% of women require treatment. Though breast pain is not normally associated with breast cancer, women who experience any breast abnormalities, including breast pain, should consult their physicians.

Thursday Thirteen

Thirteen Things about LINDSEY

1. I am posting this a day late because my internet connection has been few and far between. So . . . pretend it’s Thursday.

2. Wednesday was my 22nd birthday . . . the first birthday of many that don’t have anything special attached to them, haha. When you’re 15, you get your permit. 16 - license. 17 - R-rated movies. 18 - you’re an adult . . . by the time you pass 21, there’s not a whole lot else to look up to, haha! But we had a great time.

3. The first thing that happened was we were supposed to go to Six Flags in New Jersey, but it rained so much that we decided not to do that - we might go tomorrow. So instead we went bowling, which was great fun - I broke 100 on all three games we played (if you’ve ever seen me bowl, you know that this is a big accomplishment).

4. Then we took the train in to New York City and met up with my best friend Stephanie! It has been so great to see her - I miss her when she’s up here! (This completes #36 on my 101 in 1001).

5. Then we all went out to this awesome little wine bar called Vintage. Stephanie is good friends with the guys who work there, so we had a great time. If you’re in NYC, go visit - Broadway between 93rd and 94th.

6. The next day (yesterday) I go to go with a couple of friends to the Museum of Modern Art (#41 on my 101 in 1001). It was amaaaazing. My favorite Picasso was there (Girl before a mirror), so of course I was in heaven. It was awesome.

7. For supper we ate at Serendipity 3. This is the resteraunt that they made the movie Serenditpity around. Everyone thinks it’s overrated because of the movie, but it’s one of my favorite places to go in New York. Last night was my third time eating there, and it won’t be my last. Get the Frrrozen Hot Chocolate . . . so worth it.

8. Then, after supper, Steph and I went to see the Cirque du Soleil show that is playing in New York, Corteo (#80 on my 101 in 1001). I am obsessed with Cirque du Soleil. My favorite has always been Quidam, but Corteo definitely has given it a run for its money. I’m gonna have give this some thought. UNBELIEVABLE. Sooo good.

9. Then we were supposed to go out last night, but we came back to change and were so tired that we fell asleep, haha. Oh well, the celebration had to end at some point ;-).

10. Right now I’m still in Stephanie’s apartment, but I am taking the train back to New Jersey at some point this evening. Tomorrow morning we will most likely go to Six Flags (since the weather will be better).

11. And then tomorrow night is our friend Matt’s graduation party. We’re staying at his house in New Jersey, and he’s having this huge graduation party that a ton of our friends are coming to. Which is funny, cause most of them are in the south right now. It’s going to be great fun!

12. Then I drive back to Winston-Salem on Sunday, and Monday is moving day! Ahhhh! So much going on, this is crazy busy!!!!

13. And a quiz ;)!

You Are Cookie Monster

Misunderstood as a primal monster, you’re a true hedonist with a huge sweet tooth.

You are usually feeling: Hungry. Cookies are preferred, but you’ll eat anything if cookies aren’t around.

You are famous for: Your slightly crazy eyes and usual way of speaking

How you life your life: In the moment. “Me want COOKIE!”
