It’s been a long time since I posted a more personal post. My internship has kept me from very busy, and there are some good things brewing for me otherwise (more details later, but here’s a hint: I officially formed an LLC on August 5).

However, my main reason for not posting has been for a not so good reason – on September 15, our house was broken into, and we were cleaned out. They took pretty much everything that they could turn around quickly – TVs, video games, jewelry, etc. No one was home except the cats, and they were all unharmed. While our things were taken (some of which were irreplaceable), no one was hurt and I am SO THANKFUL for that.

It was a heartbreaking experience, and I’m still working on getting things together for the insurance claim (hoping to get that done with and mailed out this week). So . . . that’s been my life lately! How about you?

Well, not really TV – it’s an internet interview! David Lee from wetoku invited me to do an interview using their new webcam interview software about the upcoming Blogathon. So, here is my FIRST webcam appearance!

Note to self:

Move the webcam to eye level.

Stop the blinking and strange head tilting already!

David informed me that since I use a wireless connection at home, any time the connection jumps off, the video will pause. Hence the random pausing throughout the interview on my end. So, gotta somehow figure that one out because I really enjoyed the interview, and would love to play around with the wetoku software some more in the future.

Thanks so much for the interview David – it was a lot of fun!

The Mission: Complete 101 preset tasks in a period of 1001 days.

The Criteria: Tasks must be specific (i.e. no ambiguity in the wording) with a result that is either measurable or clearly defined. Tasks must also be realistic and stretching (i.e. represent some amount of work on my part).

This project was taken from Triplux.

I completed my first 101 in 1001 on September 15, 2008!

The things that I say I want to MAINTAIN will be counted as completed if they are maintained for at least two months. I figure that if I maintain something for at least that long, then it’ll be habit.

Tasks I have completed will be struck through and a completion date will be listed that is linked to a post about the completion of that task. Tasks that I have begun will be italicized and a beginning date will be listed.

Started: September 15, 2008
Due Date: June 13, 2011
Tasks Completed: 48
Tasks Remaining: 53

1. Make this list of 101 things to do in 1001 days. If anything was left incomplete from my previous 101 in 1001, then figure out why I didn’t do it, and see if I can rework the goal. If so, it has to be on this list (these items have a ** in front of them). Completed 9/15/08

OK, had to consult the Day of Blogs Writing Prompts for this one:

If you won the lottery what are the first 3 things you would do with the money?

I would:

Pay off any debt that I had (at the moment I am lucky enough not to have any, but I’m still technically a dependent on my parents since I’m still a student – but that runs out on my birthday next year, so this will probably be changing soon).

Allow myself to buy one really awesome thing – new car, amazing home entertainment system, down payment on a house . . . something.

Invest the rest. I’d need a financial counselor to help me figure out what the best way to do this would be, but I’d definitely want the payment plan on the money so that I would receive as much as possible (since I’d be investing it).

Perhaps when it gets later I’ll take a picture of the ridiculousness that is my library. Until then, just know that there are a LOT of books. I’m in the process of cataloging them all so that I will know exactly what I have and where to look for it.

The software that I use for this it Book Collector, and it is well worth the $30! From their website:

Create a comprehensive book database

List all book information: Genre, Subject, LoC & Dewey classification, etc..

Include personal details like purchase date, store, location, read-it, etc..

Catalog chapter lists, characters and book creator credits

Link your book entries to e-book or audio-book files.

Then enjoy browsing your home library on your computer

View your book database as a list or as gallery of cover images.

Group books by author, publisher, genre or any other property.

Find books quickly, either by title, author or anything you want.

I use the CueCat barcode scanner to scan all the books in. It doesn’t always 100% work, but for the uber cheap price, I’m OK with that (I bought mine on eBay for $14).

Just the tools of the trade !

Well, I did a great meme during Blogathon 2006, so I thought I’d post it here again (even though it’s 2 years off . . . the answers are close to the same):

20 Years Ago: (age 2)

My mom read to me allll the time! I’ve been a big fan of books and reading since day one. There’s also a really cute picture of me when I was about 2 1/2. I’m sitting in a big rocking chair, and my little brother is in my lap (he’s about a month old), and I’m “reading” a book to him . . . and the book is upside down.

10 Years Ago: (age 12)

When I was this age, my punishment was getting the TV taken away, it wasn’t being grounded . . . It was taking my books away. I HATED it. Also when I was 12, I started to write a book, which I finished when I was 13. It’s a for real book – think Baby-Sitter’s Club genre. I’ve gone back and read it, and while it needs a LOT of work, I have actually really considered doing something with it . . .

5 Years Ago: (age 17)

At 17 I was a senior in high school, and I was getting so burned out on all the school reading that I kind of quit reading for pleasure. I hated it, because I looooved to read. I just couldn’t do it.

3 Years ago: (age 19)

At 19 I was kind of in the same place as I was at 17. I had tried to get back into reading after graduation, but when I went to college I majored in English and theatre . . . so was reading CONSTANTLY for class. I just couldn’t get myself to read for pleasure.

Last Year: (age 21)

I decided to heck with it about school reading, and every time I had a break from school (fall break, spring break, Christmas, Easter, you name it) I would read about a book a day. I still do that.

This Month: (age 22)

Now I have started grad school, so I’m working at finding a balance between reading for pleasure and reading for class. It’s been difficult. Becoming active in Bookcrossing has helped.

3 Favorite Reading Locations:
- my bed
- outside by the pool at home in FL
- the coffee shop at school

3 Reading habits:
- when I start a book, I will usually finish it in the next 24 hours
- if I’m in public, I HAVE to be listening to music while I read
- I have 2 bookshelves full of books that I haven’t read

3 Things that distract me:
- other people
- movies
- schoolwork

3 Favorite Book Beverages:
- Diet Coke
- cup of coffee
- espresso-y drink from Starbucks

3 Favorite bookmarks:
- my mother makes bookmarks, so my favorites are all beaded bookmarks made by her!

So . . . what about YOU?
