To appease the masses, I bring to you . . . an update.

Yes, I have been a very sucky blogger the past few months. Grad school + job = NO FREE TIME. Pity me, please?

OK, so last I spoke was when Nana passed away. I was in Georgia for about a week helping with funeral arrangements and the like, then I came back to North Carolina.

My kittens did great while I was gone (AJ watched them for me), and they also gained names! I named the one with more white on his face Oscar (for Oscar Peterson) and the other one is Miles (for Miles Davis). There will be more pictures to come, though they haven’t grown AT ALL since I got them (which, I shouldn’t say that too loud - they are precious and adorable, I like their size now, LOL). They love to cuddle with me and they are SO GOOD together - I can’t imagine ever seperating them. I feel bad because I am gone so much of the day, so I don’t get to spend nearly as much time with them as I want to, but since they have each other, I know that they’re doing just fine. They just really like to cuddle when I come home!

The next week was utter chaos because it was holiday at Starbucks, so crazy busy, and I also had one week to get ready for Christmas. AJ and I had a lovely Christmas on the 21st, and on the 22nd I had Christmas with his family. On the 23rd I drove to GA, had Christmas with MY family, and then drove back on the 26th.

On the . . . 29th? . . . I woke up at about 3:30AM with really intense pain in my lower right abdomen. I could barely stand up, and it made me throw up it hurt so bad. I was able to get to the computer, saw that the right side is the appendix side, and decided I didn’t want to risk it. I called AJ and woke him up and he got me to the ER. It turns out that I had a ruptured ovarian cyst, so the next week I was off my feet a bit and then taking it pretty easy. I feel much better now, but man that hurt!!!

Classes started back on January 4th, and it has been NONSTOP since then. At the moment my rotation is in the development office, and it’s very time intensive. My schedule most days is something like this:

Rotation: 8AM-9:30AM
Class: 10AM-2PM
Rotation: 2PM-4:30PM
Work: 5:45PM-11:45PM

Note that I get about 8 hours off . . . and those are the sleeping hours . . . try fitting homework and sanity time in there. I’m exhausted. Luckily, there are only about 4 more weeks of this rotation and then I switch to something a little more laid back, so if I can just hang in there.

I’m getting really tired of school. As I go through all my classes, I realize that I’m not really learning a ton. I don’t say this to be cocky, I just got a really great undergrad education, and my instincts are usually pretty good. If it weren’t for the darned three letters that I need to get a job (MFA), I probably would be just fine to have skipped all this. I just have to keep reminding myself that I’ve only got about a year and a half before my internship, and while that’s technically still school, it’s really a job too, and it will be in an office somewhere (or something . . .)

I have missed being able to be online. I feel like I’m losing a little bit of myself because of all the craziness. Summer will be a welcome time. How is everyone else doing (is anyone even reading my blog anymore)?

Man it’s been busy!

On Thursday, Matt arrived right after lunch, so I now have both of my roommates - YAY! Then, around 7, my parents, brother, and the puppies arrived. Bo spent the night at my apartment that night, and Mama and Daddy went on to thier hotel.

On Friday, Bo left eaaaaarly to go to Elon and move in. He was super excited, though he would NEVER have showed it, LOL! They were busy moving him in all day, and I stayed at home and helped Matt get settled. And that night was a theatre party.

On Saturday, I drove to Elon to see Bo’s room and go to the family picnic. It was so crowded - parking was a nightmare. But he seems to have all of his stuff ready to go, and he’s gettng along fine with his roommate and suitemates. After that, all the parents were supposed to leave, so Mama and Daddy headed back to Winston-Salem to my apartment. Mama got to hang out with the puppies while Daddy and I had an accounting lesson (good thing about a father who is a CPA - he can help you with your homework for business school). After they left, we had a bunch of people over for the NASCAR race, we went to a concert, then we came back to watch Alien (which I had never seen). Phew.

On Sunday, Mama and Daddy came to pick up the puppies (:-() and then they left to go back to Florida. In the apartment, we cleaned some, and then we had a business meeting for something called IBO (more on that in another post). Next - homework. Boo. Then I fixed supper for everyone, which was delicious because we had zipper peas that Mama brought me :-)!!! And after that, we had a much-needed business meeting for MagicMouth, and we have so many cool things in the works for this year! It’s just super exciting!!!

So now I’m exhausted, and it’s Monday, LOL!!! Oh well . . .

Thursday Thirteen

Thirteen Things about LINDSEY

1. As you can see, I am back and ready to go! There was a bug in DirectAdmin, the software that the server uses, and it allowed hackers to manipulate anything running on PHP, especially WordPress. However, my host ROCKS, and in less than a week she had physically replaced the hard drive on the server, re-set up EVERYONE’S accounts, restored all the databases (in mint condition), and all websites were back up and running! She’s my favorite :-)!

2. As much as I hated the site being down, and as much as I missed blogging (I was gone less than a week, how pathetic am I?), it was probably good that I couldn’t blog. Last week we did an intense business simulation that absolutely consumed my week. I literally had time for NOTHING else. And that was supposed to be the easy week between sessions! I don’t know what they were thinking!

3. Speaking of . . . school is killing me. The further I get into this program, the harder and more intense it gets. I have NEVER had this much work for school. And it’s not easy work. Some of it makes sense . . . a lot doesn’t. I’m working hard to grasp the concepts, but there are SO MANY new ones that I feel like I’m lost. The schedule is crazy, the work is hard (and in high volume), and my brain doesn’t like to work this way.

4. One nice thing is I FINALLY have a roommate ;-)! Ben finally moved up here this past weekend, and it’s been really nice having him around. He’ll sit around and talk about artsy things with me, which apparently my brain is craving. It’s amazing how an intellectual conversation about something artistic makes my constant headache GO AWAY! Plus, Ben gives me hugs, which I was quite deficient on after a summer of living alone!

5. This sounds so trivial, but one of the things that has made school be so exhausting has been waking up MUCH earlier than I have been the past 4 years. I have to be up around 6AM and be sitting in the classroom ready to go for class at 8AM.

6. One of the things that has gotten me through those hard mornings is coffee! Yup, I was able to cross off #93 on my list of 101 in 1001 - I’ve switched from Diet Coke to black coffee in the mornings!

7. Another thing that gets me through the mornings - breakfast! When I was waking up at 11AM every day, it as easy to skip it, but now I eat it every day! Mark #18 off the list!

8. This past weekend (I didn’t have much homework) I was able to finish watching all the DVDs that I own. I had a couple of TV shows to go, but now I’m good! Cross #82 off!

9. As I posted in my post about backing up, I am now backing up both my websites and my hard drive regularly, knocking off #67 and #68 on my list!

10. Tomorrow my parents, brother, and cousin are all coming up here. And on Friday Bo (my brother) will be moving onto campus at Elon University, 45 minutes from my apartment. He’s growing up so fast, I can’t believe he’s starting college!

11. Along with all my family, the puppies are coming to visit! And since they’re all gonna be busy moving Bo in (and my parents will be staying in a hotel), the puppies get to live with me for the weekend! Woo hoo!!!! I’m so excited, they’re so adorable, and I miss them so much! They are Cavalier King Charles Spaniels - the black one (Tricolor) is Olive, and the tan one (Blenheim) is Ella :)!

My puppies!

12. After browsing around blogs yesterday, I found a post about FlyLady - and decided to join. We’ll see how it goes!

13. Before the crash I did a lot of blogroll checks for Thursday Thirteen, and now that I’m back, I’m gonna pick up where I left off! It was actually a lot of fun because I visited a lot of sites that were newer to the blogroll, so I hadn’t seen them before. But goodness, we’ve got a lot of participants now, LOL!

Thursday Thirteen

Thirteen Things about Lindsey!

1. This is my first time doing the Thursday 13. Let’s see if I can think of enough things to write about to keep this up, LOL!

2. I am at home in Florida now. I got home Tuesday night. Hopefully I’ll finally be able to get over being sick and I’ll be able to focus on my school work.

3. I had to take an incomplete in 3 of my classes. Basically that means that I have until the next semester starts to get all the work finished. Which means that I have to do homework and study all throughout Christmas break. Neat.

4. On Tuesday, before I went to the airport, I had my prompt book defense meeting with my theatre professors. It went pretty well. It was a little hard to talk about my prompt book because they’ve all had it since October, so they’ve been able to review it and know exactly what’s in there, but I had to try and remember from two months ago. Makes me wish that I could have had the meeting back when I turned it in, but I understand them wanting more time to review it.

5. I have no car here at home. Since I flew home, that means that my car is parked at the airport up in NC for an entire month. I am worried about my baby . . .

6. Finally got The Sims 2 installed on my computer again (it was erased when I had it reimaged, and I couldn’t find the discs to reinstall it). I started up doing The Legacy Challenge - I’m currently on Gen. 3, and this is hard friends!

7. I still have all my Christmas cards to write. I’ve addressed half of them, but I haven’t actually written in any of the cards. I feel like such a slacker. Maybe I’ll make some hot chocolate, turn on the fire (yes, turn it on - it’s a gas fireplace . . . we do live in FL), and put on a Christmas movie. That’s gotta make me want to do Christmas cards, right? Hmmm, maybe I’ll make copies of the picture of Oliver in his Christmas sweater and stick those in there along with the traditional pic of me and my brother . . . Would y’all be interested in that?

8. My mom was working at the concession stand at my brother’s soccer game earlier this week. The other woman who was working with her is the mother of a friend of mine from high school. He graduated 2 years before me. I had a crush on him, and my mom thinks he liked me back, but we didn’t quite figure all this out until about 2 months before he graduated, so what was the point? I went to visit him his freshman year, but then he went abroad his entire sophomore year and we haven’t talked since. Which means we haven’t talked in 4 years. Once his mom realized who my mom was, she gave her his cell phone number and insisted that I call him. I know that he’s had a girlfriend for 3 years, so why on earth would I call him? I haven’t yet, because only one thing comes to mind when I think about that - awkward.

9. Since becoming sick, I’ve done practically nothing but read books and watch TV and movies. As a result, I am now addicted to the Gilmore Girls. With my trusty friend Netflix, I’ve managed to watch all of seasons 1 and 2, and I’ve watched half of season 3. I should have the rest of season 3 and the majority of season 4 by Friday. It’s a little . . . ridiculous. At least it’s not reality TV.

10. It is much harder to come up with 13 things to write about than I thought it would be.

11. My mom keeps asking me what I want for Christmas. I’ve got things I want on my Amazon.com wishlist, but other than the new iPod that I want, there really aren’t many big things I want. And I doubt they’ll buy me books and CDs . . . they think I have too many already. Which is true.

12. My brother Bo went skydiving last week. The concept is absolutely terrifying to me . . .

13. Have you ever eaten at a P. F. Chang’s? I’m trying to get my family to go tomorrow night. We went once over the summer because they just opened one up here, and it was SOOOOOO delicious!!!!!
