One of my favorite musicals of all time is Tony Award winning Best Musical Fiddler on the Roof. This is just a stunning work, both on-stage and on-screen. Topol is the embodiment of a time and place that no longer exist, and I cry every time!

When I was in high school we did Fiddler on the Roof my sophomore year, and that was when the theatre bug grew into the theatre interest that has brought me to where I am today. I had always enjoyed theatre and thought it was a fun hobby, but that was the time when I realized that I needed to spend all my free time in rehearsal!

Fun fact: Fiddler on the Roof was the first run of a musical in history to surpass the 3,000 performance mark!

Once I start getting tired from the Blogathon, I’ll most likely pop in the Fiddler on the Roof DVD!

I’m afraid my blog has become one of those blogs where all I ever do is apologize for not posting much. We’ll see how things change now that . . . everything has changed! This past Friday was my last day of classes for graduate school (and today I turned in my last assignment – all I’ve got left now is my internship and thesis) AND it was also my last day with Starbucks (and when I went in today my partner number did not work . . . so I’m really gone). The move to Atlanta is happening in 2 weeks, and I don’t know if I’m ready!!!! I’ve still got SO much packing to do, and before that I’ve got WordCamp Chicago to look forward to. Phew!

To top it all off, mark of #49, #62, and #96 from my 101 in 1001!

This post is being re-posted on 7/7/09 – I had a backup malfunction and lost 3 months of posts, and so I am re-posting them through my findings with Google Cache. I did NOT delete the comments, I just have no way of restoring them. I am sorry if you commented and it is lost!

Has anyone else been following Oprah’s Best Life Series this week? Since I’ve got school, I’ve been TiVoing it, and I just finished watching the last episode. Here’s a brief recap of the week:

Monday, “Your Weight”: Oprah discusses her recent weight gain and thyroid issues, her trainer Bob Greene makes an appearance
Tuesday, “Your Health”: Dr. Oz gives us his Ultimate Health Checklist and lots of other helpful information
Wednesday, “Your Spirit”: several spiritual leaders discuss living in a way that is open and honest to yourself
Thursday, “Your Money”: Suze Orman gives us her financial action plan for 2009 (and offers her book up as FREE download until January 15)
Friday, “Your Sex Life”: Dr. Laura Berman helps us get off on the right foot sexually

It’s interesting that the theme for the week is being honest – with yourself, your partner, your family . . . in general. This is not necessarily something that I struggle with, but it is something I try to be very conscious of in general. Right now I think about this in context with the big decisions I will be facing in the next couple of months (What internship should I take? In what direction do I want to start off my career?). Along with my internship comes moving (which means that I not only will face starting over in a new city with new people, but what does that mean for my relationship with my boyfriend, who is in school here and will not be coming with me?).

As I face these decisions, I’m really starting to shape who I am as an adult and what kind of person/friend/employee/etc. that I want to be. And with every decision, I ask myself “am I being honest with who I am and who I want to be?”.

As for Oprah – I always enjoy Dr. Oz (if for nothing more than a reminder of what I should be doing) and Suze Orman always makes me feel good because, for the most part, I already do all the things she says to do. I think that Dr. Berman is an interesting new character in Oprah’s line-up, and I’m curious to see how far this relationship goes. I thought the weakest day this week was the episode with the spiritual leaders, but it’s entirely possible that I feel that way because I have much more specific spiritual beliefs and desires, so all these general spiritual conversations leave me feeling unfulfilled. I’d personally rather talk about God, not a “power” or “universal truth” or whatever the popular terminology is at the moment (though I completely understand why Oprah is taking this route, and it’s her show, so she can present the material however she wants to).

All next week (January 12-16) Oprah will be having “webinars” with each of these speakers (Monday’s will be with Bob Green, Tuesday’s with Dr. Oz, etc.), and there’s actually a decent amount of content on Oprah.com regarding each of the episodes that occured this week. I think it’s great that Oprah’s beginning to really utilize her website to add additional value to her show.

Any one else been tuning in?

New Year’s has passed, and that only means one thing . . . school starts tomorrow. Boo! I needed another couple of weeks off. After being in New York (and seeing it at Christmas, #38 on my 101 in 1001), I only got about a week to get ready for Christmas before I flew home to Florida, drove to Georgia and back, flew back to NC, and then had about a week to get ready for school. All while working holidays at Starbucks, LOL! I think I’m just ready for a more consistent schedule.

So classes start tomorrow, and I’m back to the grind. I think that this term will be a little less rigorous than last term (I have one less class), so I am looking forward to that.

I can also cross items #8 (they were out by New Year’s!) and #30 on my 101 in 1001 list.

Big things are coming in 2009 – I’m starting the search for an internship (already have an interview lined up for January!), I’ll be moving once the term is over, I’m helping Lisa with WordPress Chicago which takes place in June – and that’s just the first half of the year!

These days I can barely keep my head on straight. My classes are much more work-intensive this term than they were last year. I’m enjoying the material and I feel like I’m learning a lot, but there is so much homework! It’s exhausting me, especially with two jobs. I never have any free time anymore, LOL! I will have one less class next term, and the one class that I have that is particularly time consuming (my advanced marketing class) will be over, so hopefully this will slow down in a couple of weeks once the term is over.

I am still working in the school’s development office as the development intern and the production marketing office as a marketing associate, so I’m really getting a feel for many different aspects of the business. And I’m also gearing up for applying for internships for next year. To prepare, I reworked my resume (#26 on my 101 in 1001), which it DESPERATELY needed. I’m pretty satisfied with how it turned out too!

I actually had a sort of phone interview this week with a theatre that I would really like to work with in Atlanta next year, and they’ve asked me to come for a more formal interview in person, probably in January. I’m also starting to prepare other applications, though I may wait to act on them until this term is over (most of my classmates are waiting until January to start this process, so I am a tad early).

Exciting news came through this week about one of my other classes – we’re going to New York! My Producing in the Commercial Theatre class will be going to NYC for a week to meet with various different people in the commercial theatre (Broadway) industry – producers, marketers, etc. We really didn’t think the funding would come through on this, so we are so excited that it’s going to happen!

And once I’m back from that trip, I’ll have just a couple of weeks off from school (but not work) before we start back up again. I can’t wait until school is over, LOL!

The Mission: Complete 101 preset tasks in a period of 1001 days.

The Criteria: Tasks must be specific (i.e. no ambiguity in the wording) with a result that is either measurable or clearly defined. Tasks must also be realistic and stretching (i.e. represent some amount of work on my part).

This project was taken from Triplux.

I completed my first 101 in 1001 on September 15, 2008!

The things that I say I want to MAINTAIN will be counted as completed if they are maintained for at least two months. I figure that if I maintain something for at least that long, then it’ll be habit.

Tasks I have completed will be struck through and a completion date will be listed that is linked to a post about the completion of that task. Tasks that I have begun will be italicized and a beginning date will be listed.

Started: September 15, 2008
Due Date: June 13, 2011
Tasks Completed: 48
Tasks Remaining: 53

1. Make this list of 101 things to do in 1001 days. If anything was left incomplete from my previous 101 in 1001, then figure out why I didn’t do it, and see if I can rework the goal. If so, it has to be on this list (these items have a ** in front of them). Completed 9/15/08
